The phrase “new normal” conceals the most and says the least. It suggests business as usual and a certain kind of continuum between yesterday and tomorrow. But is there a continuum? More importantly: Do we want a continuum? Many realise that we have to recalibrate as a society. Step back and think again.
We live in the age of history’s greatest acceleration, and change is the only constant. As Millenials, we never really had a reliable continuity as we entered the workforce just after the subprime crisis, and housing prices were still prohibitive. For the first time in modern history…
The number of hate crimes against Asians around the world skyrocketed during the pandemic. They are pervasive in predominantly white communities across the globe. We see extreme examples on the news, but the community had to endure all kinds of shunning and microaggression even before the pandemic and Asian scapegoating started.
Let’s see what xenophobic harassment can look like and why your actions as a bystander and ally matter.
I’m sure I’m not the first person to tell you that the world's plastic problem is at a critical level today. From the Stone Age to the Iron Age to the Steel Age, we delineate society’s epochs by their primary material for fabrication. Ours will most likely be called the Plastic Age.
Microplastics and the plastic waste in our oceans, food-chain and even air are harmful to humans and wildlife. In one study, 100% of the mussels tested contained microplastics. …
I am biracial. Wherever I am, the majority perceives me as a foreigner. I am a Caucasian- Asian mix. Not Asian enough in my native Asian country, or anywhere in Asia, and not white enough in Europe or the States.
Racist microaggression and the resulting racial battle fatigue are very real for BIPOC all around the world, regardless of whether they were born where they live or not.
A sense of being mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually drained from having to defend, validate our existence to racist people. …
You know what I hate? It's that I never followed any of their accounts nor watched their shows and yet they are in my face wherever I click on the internet. Stop following people who earn millons of dollars per instagram post, and their biggest achievement is having plastic surgeries
Looking back on history, let’s ask ourselves: When do conspiracy theories flourish the most? Think a little bit outside the box.
When we talk of conspiracies, we usually think of something relatively small — like “was 9/11 an inside job?” or “Is the government experimenting on aliens at Area 51?”.
The Nazi ideology gained the title of being an ideology because it managed to take over one of the biggest countries of Europe and launch one of the ugliest wars in human history.
Although in essence, it was nothing but a conspiracy. Nazism is a conspiracy about a cabal of…
On day 300 of the lockdown, I yearned for a journey away from the confines of my apartment. Since travels were and mostly still are out of the picture, I decided to go on a different trip. Magic mushroom truffles, bath bombs, my new ocean wave projector, and a plethora of sex toys sure sounded like the perfect recipe to spice up quarantine.
But before we delve into the world of transcendent orgasms, a word of caution: Never try magic mushroom truffles or any psychedelics alone if you haven’t done it with the guidance of a “Taita”/teacher or a trusted…
Global Climate Change’s effects are visible to anyone who cares to look, yet we are sorely lacking when it comes to tackling it. It is a complex issue that requires global, synchronised action between governments, companies and individuals.
But maybe amid the tragedies COVID-19 brought to the world, there is a silver lining. Positive outcomes of COVID-19? It may sound preposterous right now, but what we learn from it could make the world a better place.
The response to COVID-19 was not fast enough, and our governments weren’t as well-prepared as they could have been. …
I am devastated by having to write this article. I did not want to because the rising number of anti-Asian hate crimes worldwide is making me feel furious, frustrated and powerless. I don’t want to explain to people that Asians didn’t cause the COVID-19 pandemic. It is a singularly nonsensical belief and it is hard to argue with facts against hatred. I can only hope that messages like mine reach more people and the aggressors will be incarcerated and held accountable.
